About this event

Introduction to Linocut Printmaking

Ages: 16+

All materials included!

Discover the creative possibilities of linocut printmaking in this beginner-friendly introductory workshop! Linocut is a form of relief printing where an image or design is carved into a linoleum block, inked, and then transferred onto paper or other surfaces to create a print.

Students will be introduced to the tools, materials, and basic techniques used in linocut printmaking, including how to plan and transfer a design, safely use carving tools, create different marks and textures, apply printing ink, and hand-print their finished block.

We’ll also explore how positive and negative space work in relief printing and how your carved block can be used again and again to create multiple prints.

Once you’ve created your own linocut block, the possibilities are endless! Use your designs to create:

• Handmade greeting cards

• Art prints

• Gift tags

• Bookmarks

• Stationery

• Small stamps and repeating patterns

• Handmade wrapping paper

• Personalized labels and packaging

• Printed fabric and textiles*

• Mixed-media artwork

• And more!

Students will leave with a better understanding of the linocut process, their own carved block, and prints created during the workshop—plus the foundational skills to continue experimenting with printmaking at home.

No previous drawing, carving, or printmaking experience is required. Beginners welcome!

*Printing on fabric may require different inks and techniques than those introduced during the workshop.
